A Collection of Cambodian National Costumes and Wedding Attire
The national costume of Cambodia is the Sampot, a traditional garment worn across generations for various official ceremonies, weddings, and receptions for foreign dignitaries.
While the Sampot has served as traditional wedding attire for generations up to the present, the popularity of Thai television dramas featuring traditional Thai dress led to widespread admiration. Consequently, there have been attempts to claim traditional Thai attire as part of Cambodian heritage, disregarding their own long-standing Sampot tradition. Although historical photographs reveal that a small number of Cambodians wore traditional Thai dress in past eras, it was restricted to limited circles and never gained broad popularity as it was not their national costume. It was only in the 2020s that it became widely popular, leading to the aforementioned attempts to adopt traditional Thai attire as their own.
